Talking About My Girls

Mary came over for dinner today!

Jenny made four cheese lasagna and Mary made lemon meringue pie, we had a bottle of Chateau Rouge and it was basically the Best Meal. A cook and a baker, I am a lucky man.

I think we were a little hazy-happy by the end, and what with Mary and Jenny in the same room we never kept to a topic long enough for me to write what we talked about. I don't know what it is that these women do that they can always understand each other's vague statements, even having just only met.

Jenny swept off to do dishes for some reason before coming back with the dessert, so Mary and I had a bit of a serious talk about friends- and when Jenny returned with cake somehow it immediately jumped to 'recipes gained from grandmothers'.

I didn't even know Mary had a grandmother! ;)

What with my girls apparently getting along like a house on fire (did you get a standing invitation to the Book Club while I wasn't looking, Mary? You've got to come to a Quiz Night first.) I didn't really do much more than relax and enjoy by the end, haha.

Jenny was in her element, of course, hostess as always. I'm half-surprised she hasn't tried to open her own restaurant, to be honest, just hired the chefs and waltzed about the dining area. (Lovely image, isn't it?)

Anyway. It's nice to have a night in with friends. Should have them more often. Bill, I don't suppose you and Millie are free next Friday?

Is That A Riviera?

S, Jenny and I finally had the discussion about what we wanted to sitting room to look like. (Is 'we' accurate? Just kidding Jen, you know I love you.) Dogs were out back, cab fees were payed, consulting fees were not but we'll get to that later, S better do something useful will all that money (like buy more pink enamel, ha!) etcetera etcetera.

It's always red, isn't it. Whatever you two want, I guess.

Jenny asked for pretty specific things for the (extremely expensive) mural she wanted. S did not seem to agree very much, so I asked him to send me something he'd prefer to do and that would fit Jen's room still. Got it in my email last night. Classy stuff.

S- by the way, I printed a copy out and signed it for your files, in case you needed it.

Jenny was busy yelling at me for going over her head, but if I'm decoding right her feelings are more or less 'wow I never would've thought of that but its really nice.' But, you know, I could be wrong. ;) She signed it as well, so I think it's fine.

She calmed down when I told her the price difference in the estimations though, hahahaha!

Anyway. See everyone Saturday, yea?

Sherlock Party!

Third day our of four spent in John's presence today. Christ, mate, I need a break. ;) Nah, I love you.

Saw Mary for the first time in years today! She was so surprised. (Your face, Mary!) But it was wonderful to see her. We spent most of Sherlock sitting on the floor, because S absolutely refused to give me any couch space again. I'm starting not to feel like myself.

Didn't go to the pub afterward, because Jenny got angry at me for how 'slobberingly drunk' I was yesterday. Still had a drink though, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] let_us_trade . We appreciate it, mate. (Best mascot ever.)

I brought a bottle of Peach non-alcoholic wine-- it disappeared. I don't mean someone drank it, I mean I think in a week someone is going to cut themselves on broken glass in a highly unlikely place, and everything will be sticky.

Hopefully it'll turn up miraculously at the back of John and S's fridge, but I doubt it.

In other news, several more restraining orders possibly to come, Bill is The Best Guard Dog, [livejournal.com profile] salts_theway is an absolutely lovely, strong young lady as long as you aren't her target for some reason, Mary makes amazing cake and if enough popcorn gets caught in S's hair, don't be surprised if he dumps a bowl of it on your head.

Considering its length, I don't even understand how that happened, but showers for all. But none of you are here for that. You are here for BBC's Sherlock. So here's what I think about that.

Stamford was the best character. No really. ;) Seriously, though I love all of the supporting cast, especially the lovely if abused morgue technician.

Sherlock's deduction of John, practically straight out of canon, be still my heart. And so many lovely little bits straight out of canon, oh, it was wonderful! The first episode's name, for heaven's sake, Study in Pink!

Boy, Rupert Graves has a nice smile, doesn't he?

So many gay moments. I can't tell if they're illusions to the possibility of Doyle's Holmes and Watson being gay or in support of the current atmosphere in society (not to mention writers plugging their own feelings about things in) but I can't say I'm complaining, even if the restaurant scene itself was a little awkward.

I remember all of you complaining on [livejournal.com profile] holmeschat about the new Sherlock. Eating your words, now, aren't you. ;)

Mycroft was wonderful. And his assistant... so very pretty on the eyes, but I'm far more impressed by all the very translatable looks she gave. Methinks I may write a short or two about her.

[FRIENDS-LOCKED] What even

Pub Night was its own magical Blitz as usual with the lovely addition of [livejournal.com profile] let_us_trade who, I am more than happy to admit, is just as atrocious at trivia as we are. Welcome to the club mate!

In other news, Tony deserves every comeuppance ever and its his own damn bad karma. The way I see it, he owes you a drink, John,

Phoenix was lovely. If Bill's Absurd Heterosexuality ever showed cracks before, it was never so dramatic as this one.

In other news I may still be blitzed. I HAVE PRACTICE WRITING DRUNK YOU SEE. HOW CNA YOU TELL?

(no subject)

THE TEAM watched Hot Fuzz at John's.

He tells me that the director and Pegg wrote slashfic for it? I can't say I'm surprised. Danny worships Angel beginning to end, hahaha.

I'm not sure about this 'the role was originally female' bit. A lot of scenes are suspiciously characteristic of a male character. The ketchup thing, for instance. Also, it would take away a lot of Doris' powers ;)

Bill still hasn't seen Shaun of the Dead? What is up with that? We will remedy!

Mary, your cake was delicious and not at all poisoned., even cut with need-to-be-disinfected forks. (Yikes!) We entirely appreciate you doing John's dishes, as well. ;p

And that slice of Martin Freeman at the beginning is just intensifying my excitement over Sherlock. Two days!

Speaking of Hot Fuzz: thanks for the free Jaffa cakes, expect a visit from our friendly inspector. Glad to not have met you.

What Are The Chances

I met consulting_detective today. John's right, he is surprisingly quiet. That is not to say he isn't quite intense, however. Quite the sharp one, though. One article on my kitchen table and he had half of my current love life figured. Clever thing.

Were Jenny any other kind of woman, I'm sure you would've gotten the whole story, S. ;) Or if she'd be present, you would've known by looking at her, no doubt

Jaffa cakes.

Either way, CD will be designing my new sitting room, apparently. I'm rather looking forward to it! Especially if there's a mural involved. I'll have to take pictures before we move furniture back in.

In other news, Misha turned violent for the first time in her life. I'm really terribly sorry about that, S. I've really never seen her act that way. Bill and John could tell you, she usually nuzzles her way into everyone's lap and just sheds on everyone.

John will be able to take good care of that wound. John, if you need any of the numbing cream, I have whole batches of it.

Sorry again! If you want I can lock her in the bedroom whenever you're over.

Right. So. Yes. Everybody.  CD, while quiet and a little defensive, is quite a lot better than you all give him credit for. He's certainly quite interesting.

Bill: Thursday. Hot Fuzz. When should we be there?

HOUSE THINGS

Jenny wants to renovate the sitting room. To impress the book club, no doubt: Bill, I'm blaming Millie. ;)

Anyone in the London area know a good interior designer that doesn't charge ridiculous fees? I'd be quite appreciative. 1000-word fic appreciative, even?

Because the BBC Loves ME

So everyone's been complaining about Sherlock being moved back a week. I say to that:

HAHAHAHA

Sorry everyone, but I'm very very fine with this. I get to see it with everyone for the first time! John, I'm sorry but I really couldn't care less that you're upset about it. =p

In other news, after some incredibly childish moments on chat, Bill came over and had a drink while we let the puppies play and had good laughs at the more nonsensical paper's I've received. Thanks Bill! You, sir, are the best. ...One of them, in any case. ;)

SEE EVERYONE NEXT SATURDAY!

You mean there's more?

Finally done giving all the brats their end-of-term exams. I've had to deal with so many 'sudden illness' emails in the last few days it's a small wonder anyone's turned up for their timeslots at all. But, despite all their whining and complaining, all of them are done.

But for little ol' me? Nope. One week to grade all these labs and exams and turn grades in! Only one teacher's aid! Yay me!

If one more student shows up with their lab books I'm going to throw all late assignments in the fire and give them a nice zero. That sounds nice.

And you know what upsets me the most? the 11th! The Sherlock premier! Guess where I'll be.

You got it. Grading these goddamn lab books.

Who wants to get a pint with me after grades are in?
